What are DreamCast concrete fire pits made of?
DreamCast fire pits are made from GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete), which combines AR glass fibers with pozzolans like fly ash for superior strength. Unlike traditional concrete, GFRC flexes under heat and thermal changes, making it ideal for direct flame exposure, freeze-thaw cycles, UV exposure, and coastal or mountain climates. Our concrete mix also includes pozzolans like fly ash, an industrial waste byproduct, that improves strength while reducing environmental impact. The AR glass fibers won’t rust in concrete’s naturally high-alkaline environment, ensuring long-term structural stability.
Will a concrete fire pit crack?
DreamCast GFRC fire pits are highly resistant to cracking. AR glass fibers allow the material to flex under extreme heat and temperature fluctuations rather than fracture. Our fire pits handle up to 250,000 BTU, freeze-thaw cycles, and UV exposure. Proper installation, drainage, and following our care guidelines will maximize lifespan. We’ve tested our designs extensively in harsh climates, from Canadian winters to desert heat, to ensure they perform reliably year after year.
What is considered a high BTU fire pit?
A high BTU fire pit produces 60,000 BTU or more. Standard backyard fire pits run 40,000 to 60,000 BTU. DreamCast models range from 60,000 up to 250,000 BTU. Signature models like the Zen 48, Quadra 72, and Linea 72 reach 150,000 to 250,000 BTU, ideal for cooler climates and larger gatherings.
